Electronic Textiles
Fabrics can think, smell, and talk. They can do much more than just provide passive protection and aesthetics to the human body. At UoS, we are not only thinking about this, but we are already making it happen, leading the way in the evolution of our clothing into the next generation garments called e-textiles. E-textiles seamlessly combine electronics with traditional textile materials to add bespoke functionalities in garments, which provide mobile Medicare for early detection and monitoring of diseases, augmented fashion, lightweight power scavengers for charging other mobile devices, and many more. We predominantly achieve these garments using already existing manufacturing methods in the textile industry, such as printing and weaving.
