Enlightening clean hydrogen production
Burning hydrogen only produces water, rather than greenhouse gases, making it a clean fuel. However, most hydrogen is still made using fossil fuels, which contributes to climate change. A cleaner method to produce hydrogen is to use energy from sunlight to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, in a similar way to how plants use sunlight in a process called photosynthesis.
At this stand, you can discover how this light driven process works, see bubbles of gas being made in real time, and find out how researchers from the Integrated Photonics Devices group at the university are working to make this method more efficient and affordable for the future.
