IMAGE COPYRIGHT Master the noise: active control of sound and vibration
Join the Institute of Sound and Vibration to learn everything about reducing noise!
With the growing popularity of noise cancelling headphones, active noise control is quickly becoming a well known technology. Active vibration control, though reliant on very similar approaches, remains relatively unknown.
This demo is split into two parts.
In the first, you will be presented with a pair of commercial noise cancelling headphones. A nearby loudspeaker produces a set of different sounds, and you will be encouraged to explore how well the headphones perform at different frequencies, and with different soundscapes.
In the second, you will experience a simple demo of a vibration control system. This demo aims to highlight the capabilities of active noise and vibration control systems, with the users being able to interactively explore the limitations of active noise control.
Discussion around the demo can include possible applications of such systems, basic understanding of the system, limitations of such systems, and advantages of such systems over passive noise control methods.
