Exploring the inner life of the cell
Come along to spark your curiosity of the human cell, and learn about the benefits of cell biology research and how it guides our understanding of human disease.
The research group investigates how our bodies ensure the optimal function of different organelles within our cells. We focus our research on a particular organelle called mitochondria, which is most well-known for its production of energy that we need to perform all our daily activities. This makes the mitochondria an essential component within our cells, which needs to function at its best for our healthy ageing. As a scientist, one of the best ways to investigate cellular processes is to use microscopes to look inside the human cell to determine how the different parts communicate with each other and respond to the damage that happens as we age.
We welcome you to become scientists yourselves, learn about the mitochondria and view different tissues or cellular structures using the microscope on hand.
Come along to also have a go at our interactive activity to save the cell and see how fast you can get rid of damaged mitochondria to keep the cell healthy.
