Bones are important within the body as they help provide structure, allow us to move, and protect our vital organs such as the brain, heart, & lungs. Bones are incredibly strong and have an amazing ability to repair themselves. However sometimes bones need extra help, and that's where bonkers biomaterials come in!
In this interactive exhibit, meet students and researchers from the Bone and Joint Group at Southampton General Hospital and discover how they use human-safe materials and stem cells to promote bone healing, deliver medications, and prevent bone infections. The activities include carrying out growing personal stem cells, determining the fate of stem cells in a pin ball machine, and toppling bacteria in a game of skittles.
